Clothing and toys, love and care, for young and old

Today, we shine a light on the wonderful work carried out in the community by Diana Aleksieva, one of our colleagues at Coats Bulgaria. Coats Bulgaria were recognised as one of the winners for our Coats Cares programme for their project led by to celebrate our unsung heroes who use their time to give back to the world.

Based in Sofia, Diana is an HR Business Partner and has been part of the Coats community for over 20 years. “I love working here, because it brings me great joy and satisfaction,” she says happily.

While Diana finds joy and satisfaction working at Coats from Monday to Friday, she takes great pleasure in giving back to the community outside of work.

“Every weekend, I volunteer at old people’s homes and also at children’s homes. These children, they don’t have any family, they don’t have parents. They need love. Working with children and old people is a wonderful experience. I encourage people in society to do the same.”

Sharing love, raising funds, spreading joy

Diana gives up her spare time to be with the more vulnerable members of her community – and gives them her love and care. But as well as giving her time and her companionship, she also raises funds, and organises donations of toys, food and clothing. “I encourage colleagues to donate to clothes banks,” she says proudly. “And I encourage them to get involved in my charity work too.”

Diana organises charity bazaars at work, where she and her colleagues make and sell toys, gifts and baked goods in order to raise much-needed funds. Her enthusiasm is infectious.

As fellow HR Business Partner, Tihomira Nikolova, says, “I love to crochet and donate what I have made for Diana’s charity cause, because I am very happy when I see the joy in children’s eyes.”

It seems appropriate that employees at the world’s leading industrial thread manufacturer use their craft skills to make lovely handmade toys that help make children’s lives better.

But Diana’s ambitions don’t stop there. She works tirelessly to improve the lives of children and old people in Sofia and beyond. “If I had more funds, I would love to be able to build a new playground for the children. I would also like to buy new wheelchairs for the old people.”

Diana is an inspiration to all of us. As Sonia Manolova, Managing Director, EMEA and Americas, says, “I’m very proud of what Diana is doing and so is everyone at Coats. We admire such initiatives and we all need to follow Diana’s example.”
