Coats India is honoured to be a Great Place To Work®.
It’s official. The Great Place To Work® organisation has listed Coats India among India’s Best Companies to Work For 2024: Top 100. This recognition is testament to the power of our workplace culture, and to the men and women who make it such a special place.
But what makes Coats India such a great place to work? To discover this, GPTW judged us by our ability to create an excellent workplace that has a positive impact on people, communities and the world as a whole. They asked the people who matter – our employees – for their views. With an excellent participation rate of 98%, here’s what they had to say…
We celebrate each other
A strong spirit of togetherness runs through Coats India, as you will see from the many days of celebrations, where we come together as one.
To mark the milestone of being recognised by Great Place To Work®, we created Coats Colours Day. This was a testament to our vibrant culture, and was celebrated by nearly 6,500 people in Panoli, Chennai, Bengaluru, Madurai, Tuticorin, Ambasamudram and Delhi.
And on 8 March, International Women’s Day, Coats India transforms into a hub of inspiration and celebration as we unite to applaud the remarkable achievements of the women who dedicate their skills, passion, and commitment to our workplace. As we honour the achievements of the women in our workplace, we are reminded of the importance of diversity, inclusion, and appreciation in creating a positive and thriving work environment.
We look after our people
The mark of a great place to work is how well it cares for its employees. At Coats India, we look after our people – and their families too. Our Paternity Leave policy gives fathers the much-needed time and support to bond with their babies, so that they can play a vital part in their children’s development.
Meanwhile the new world-class crèche at our Ambas plant helps employees achieve a better work/life balance, making it easier to return to work without sacrificing precious parenting time. It also offers a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment for their children too.
In contrast to the joys of parenthood, employees may find themselves struggling with life’s challenges. When everything gets too much, the individual is more important than the work – and our Employee Assistance Programme provides mental health support through counselling, helplines and webinars.
We invest in careers
A great place to work keeps its employees feeling fulfilled. That’s why at Coats India, we are proud to provide an Employee Assistance Programme, that helps to identify training and learning that will benefit employees – and pays for it too.
We are also passionate about investing in our key talent, so that we can grow the leaders of tomorrow. That is why we make it easier for employees to access leadership training, as well as providing our very own Capability Development Program. Here, we identify high potential employees, so that they can grow to be the leaders of tomorrow.
We listen and act
Good employers encourage their employees to engage, speak up and contribute to the company’s direction. But great places to work act on this feedback. In our Bengaluru offices, we hold monthly ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ meetings, where all employees come together to share updates, celebrate milestones, welcome new joiners and discuss the way forward for the business.
Good communication is constant at Coats. Our offices and factories hold regular meetings and Town Halls to nurture a culture of open and honest dialogue.
Meaningful dialogue like this has helped to build a powerful culture of trust in Coats and a high level of engagement with employees – which has contributed to positive business results over the years.
We care passionately for our communities
Coats India is a great place to work because we find ways to give back to our communities – both as an organisation and as individuals. As part of our Coats Cares programme, we show our commitment to being a good corporate citizens – locally, nationwide and globally.
Today, we are empowering women in rural areas through skill development, fostering self-reliance and economic independence. Our skill development centres in Ambas and Madurai provide life-changing training for economically disadvantaged women, equipping them with vital industrial sewing skills. So far, 600 women have used their learning and skills to create income-generating opportunities. This brings independence for them, and benefits their families. But the effects are felt throughout the whole community and entire region, bringing greater prosperity.
Meanwhile, we support schools and other vital community organisations, so that our nation’s children can have the best possible opportunities for success. At the PLWA School near our Madura Coats Ambas Factory, we have built a fully modernized kitchen with cooking gas, essential cooking equipment and utensils.
Previously, meals were prepared in an open kitchen under a shed with firewood without proper food storage with risk of contamination. Now, over 2,000 students can benefit from nutritious meals, supporting their educational journey. We are proud to help make such a positive impact on their lives and futures.
We are always working towards 100%
Finally, a Great Place To Work® never stops trying to improve itself. Globally, 87% of Coats employees are based in locations with GPTW certification – and Coats is ranked 19th in the GPTW Best Workplace in Asia list. India is proud to play its part, but Coats will not rest until we are a great place to work for everyone.
