Coats Technical Services provides operational improvement services in the areas of quality, audit and issues related to manufacture and construction of sewn products. Coats has more than two and a half centuries of accumulated expertise in finding solutions to the issues faced by the sewing thread, zips and speciality yarn users across all industries. Whether you are a manufacturer of garments, shoes, hand bags, luggage, automotive airbags, seat belts, mattresses, fibre optic cables or any product involving use of thread, zips or finished yarns, Coats can add value to your operations. Our Technical Services team members will visit a factory and assess problems on the factory floor, at the needle point. For example, this may involve dismantling a sewing machine to discover the issue and correct it. This problem solving analysis may also relate to issues such as seam breakage and seam pucker. Our garment technicians are highly experienced at solving these common issues. We would then develop a report and share information with our customers to help resolve the issues found at factory floor level. We go directly to our customer at either the factory floor or the head office and help resolve problems in production lines

Read MorePresentations is one of the key aspects for both vendors and for brands, where our Coats Technical Services experts will go into the factories and train them on ‘how to do their jobs better’. We have Technical Services team members available globally who are capable of presenting a range of topics to both brands and vendors, enabling them to significantly improve their garment manufacturing methods. We have presentations on a range of subject matters including final product manufacturing like denim and fine tailoring. We also look at problem solving and knowledge training such as seam puckering and thread types and uses. Our Coats advisors will present this to both brands and vendors generally within an hour, but can also be presented with or in conjunction with needle, trim or backing material suppliers to format a larger presentation pack for larger brands. We have distilled our decades of experience of working with the sewn product manufacturers into a series of seminars. We customise these seminars and deliver them in person to our customers. We present extracts from such seminars for your preview.

We would then give recommendations on thread types, needle types and stitch types to show to our customers how that fabric will look using our selected sewing thread

The design concept stage of product development is where we evaluate a garment, assess the seams and give any necessary recommendations in regards to its strength or elongation to the customer. The Coats expert would give the corrective measures necessary to make sure that it meets the minimum requirement. An example of this would be if manufacturing a rugby shirt where it had to have a breaking force of 400 newtons on the back neck, we would analyse what sewing threads are proposed. Then if required we would recommend a switch to a more suitable thread, to ensure it met the minimum seam strength..
Read MoreAt Coats, our Embroidery Solution Centres are one of the best embroidery solutions available globally. We have 6 Embroidery Solution Centres around Asia which enable both brands and vendors to improve the quality of their embroidery designs almost instantaneously. Coats Embroidery Solution Centre teams improve the quality and appearance of your embroidery, and in addition will also increase productivity by minimising machine downtime and streamlining workflow. We’re constantly searching for ways to improve quality, to create stunning new effects and techniques and to solve productivity problems to keep your costs competitive. We understand that staying at the cutting edge is what it takes to keep your customers coming back. Our expertise can help you achieve just that. We can combine this with our digital tool Embroidery Design Viewer (EDV). From our ESC’s we can then obtain the DST file, which is the standard file format for embroidery designs. From that we can look at improvements to the designs, the backing materials, the needle and thread types to ensure that we can recommend a perfect standard. Brands can then issue this to their embroidery factories to ensure their brand logo is standardised, stands out and be a quality final product, regardless of which vendor they choose. Designs can then assessed in regards to how long they take to sew, how many stitches and review of the final colour. Within the Embroidery Design Viewer there is our Coats Sylko shadecard so design colour, the backing material and the shade of the backing material can be reviewed and approved to ensure a brand’s stitched logo design follows their brand guidelines as closely as possible.
