Sports Polo Shirt

We offer sewing threads in fine sizes which have high levels of tenacity and strength which helps to avoid costly needle damage to the fabrics.

Approximate thread consumption for men's sports polo shirts is 150 metres. For ladies' sports polo shirts is 120 metres. For children's sports polo shirts is 90 metres. Alternative thread types may be used depending on required final quality. The thread size will determine the choice of needle size.

The recommendations in the table apply to all of these stitch types. The choice of which thread to use for top cover is determined by the appearance required. Popular top covering threads include; Gramax, Epic and Sylko.

In order to avoid damage to the fabric during the sewing of knitted garments, ball point needles are generally recommended.

Where two Tex sizes of thread have been suggested the choice will be determined by the demands of the stitching operation, the amount of load / demand placed on the seam and the type and weight of fabric being sewn.

While Epic Tex 24 or 30 has been selected for the overlock and coverseam looper elements in the above table, manufacturers sometimes favour the use of textured polyester sewing thread for these elements.
Where this is the case our recommendation would be for Gramax Tex 18.

The sewing thread recommendations laid out above are intended as a guide to aid the construction of garments with good quality seams. As garments of the same generic type differ in terms of fabric substrate and construction, and both making up methods and post make up processing can greatly vary, these recommendations should be viewed as a good starting point for thread selection.

Garment specific recommendations for thread and needle selection as well as accurate thread consumption figures and onsite technical support can be obtained by contacting your local Coats' office.
