Coats meets the future talents of fashion with Vakko ESMOD

Coats, the world’s leading industrial thread manufacturer, has sponsored a design competition for second year students on the Fashion Design and Creation Diploma Programme at Vakko ESMOD Fashion Academy.
It formed part of a long standing collaboration with Turkey’s leading fashion school which is based in Istanbul.
A total of 22 Vakko ESMOD Fashion Academy students used sustainable materials in their ‘casualwear’ themed design projects and presented them to the jury, which included experienced fashion industry tutors alongside Coats representatives. During the full day of judging, the designs of students were scored with a particular focus on fabric, pattern and sewing stages, giving the future fashion designers valuable experience of presenting their creations to the industry. The creators of the top three designs were presented with a sewing machine and professional drawing pens from Coats at the competition which took place in July.
Halil Demir, Regional Technical Services Manager, EMEA, Coats, who was one of the judges, said: ‘It is great to see the talent of the students and provide them with a platform to showcase their creativity to industry representatives – who may even be their future customers.’
Coats maintains close relationships with fashion schools through initiatives such as design competitions, sponsorships and innovation workshops in order to support the development of creative and successful talent which will shape the future of the sector.
