2 October 2019: Probir Guha, Vice President of Global Composites Innovation, Coats, has been awarded the 2019 Pioneer Award by The American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), the world’s largest composite industry trade group.

The award is in recognition of Probir's contributions to the composites sector over the duration of his career and was presented to him by Tom Dobbins, President, ACMA, at the Composite & Advanced Material Expo (CAMX) in California, US, on Monday 23 September.

Probir Guha said: 'I am extremely proud to receive this award and would like to thank the ACMA Board and the technical and business partners with whom I have worked throughout my career. To be identified as a pioneer is a great endorsement of the time I have spent developing new technologies to bring to the market. I am continuing this innovation at Coats, where we collaborate with partners across many different sectors to find bold, game changing solutions to their industry challenges.'

Probir's role at Coats is to lead the development of fibre reinforced composites and light weight solutions to replace metal in automotive, aerospace, marine and other industries. Coats prides itself on its pioneering spirit and has opened a series of three Innovation Hubs across the world to collaborate with a range of innovation partners including customers, brands, suppliers, universities and start-ups.

Probir's career in innovation spans more than 40 years and he has 126 patents issued and pending globally. He spent 35 years at ThyssenKrupp Budd where he contributed to many innovations that helped the company establish itself as an international leader in automotive composites. Probir has also served as the Technology Committee Chairman for ACA (Automotive Composites Alliance) in Detroit, US, and in March 2016 helped the Continental Structural Plastics team win the JEC Innovation Award for the development of a light weight automotive hybrid decklid.
