26 November 2020: Coats, has been recognised with a 3rd Class Labor Order from the President of Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Phu Trong, for its Coats Phong Phu operation.
The 3rd Class Labor Order (Huân chương lao động as it is known in Vietnam) is awarded to organisations that have recorded outstanding achievements in labour, creativity or national construction. Coats Phong Phu received the award for the continued success of its contribution to business development and economic development in Vietnam, as well as for its focus on the social welfare of the community of Ho Chi Minh City and in other local provinces.
Tram Anh Tran, Managing Director, Vietnam Cluster, Coats, said: ‘We are very proud to receive this award. It recognises our commercial success and also our commitment to the social pillar of our sustainability strategy. The prosperity of our business is closely aligned to the health and well-being of the communities in which we operate and external recognition like this demonstrates sustainability is at the heart of our company.’
Coats has an extensive community engagement programme to achieve its objective of creating long-term, real benefits for the communities surrounding it, as well as the environment. It supports the Ta Oi people in the mountainous region of A Luoi in central Vietnam by supplying them with excess threads to help sustain ancient weaving traditions. The woven textiles are sold to designers of ethical products which supports further economic development. Other projects include renovating local primary schools, providing computers and books to students and installing clean water supply systems for citizens in Ninh Thuan, a province in south east Vietnam.
This is the latest in a long series of awards for Coats Phong Phu which last year (2019) celebrated 30 years of operating in Vietnam. Other awards include:
- Named in the ‘Best Companies to Work for in Asia 2018’ by HR Asia magazine
- Outstanding Achievement in Business (2016) and the People Empowerment Category (2014) at the Vietnam Supply Chain awards
